This necklace is a beautiful replica of an antique medal.  A square-shaped silver plated medal, the front is a profile visage of Our Lady of Lourdes with delicate scrollwork framing it and the verso is the scene of Our Lady appearing to St. Bernadette at the grotto with Lourdes written below.

The Virgin Mary asked Bernadette Soubirous to “Go and drink at the Spring and wash yourself there.”  The water at Lourdes has long been known to have healing properties, some of which have been miraculous.  The water is a symbol of cleansing, healing, and essentially our Baptism.  The beautiful mother of pearl is reminiscent of the flowing water of this healing Spring.  As St. Bernadette reminds us, “One must have faith, one must pray:  this water would have no virtue without faith!”  And so, we too, without direct access to the healing Spring, can still ask Our Lady with faith for the healing and graces she wishes to give us through our devotion to this beautiful apparition approved by the Church.
